What it is for

One country, one burn community.

A burn unit in Calgary solves a problem that a unit in Halifax is still wrestling with. A firefighter association funds something remarkable and nobody outside the province hears about it. A camp finds a better way to run cabin nights and it stays inside that camp.

There is no shortage of good work in Canadian burn care. What is missing is somewhere it all lands in the same place, four times a year, where the next person can find it.

Who it is for
Survivors and families who want to see the whole picture
Burn unit teams — nurses, surgeons, OT and PT, social work
Firefighter associations and burn funds
Burn camp directors, cabin leaders and volunteers
Psychologists and counsellors working with survivors
Every issue

Six things, the same order, every issue.

Short enough to read with a coffee. Nothing padded, nothing that could have been an email.

From the units

One burn unit each issue, in their own words. What they are seeing, what they have changed, what they wish other units knew.

On the trucks

Firefighter associations and burn funds — what they raised, what it paid for, and how another hall could do the same.

A survivor's story

One person's story, told the way they want to tell it. Always with consent, never for effect.

Practice notes

Something useful from a clinician — scar management, itch, pressure garments, return to work, the conversations nobody is trained for.

What's on

Peer support dates, camp weeks, the annual virtual forum, conferences, and fundraisers worth travelling to — the whole season ahead.

Asks and offers

A camp short of volunteers, a unit looking for a peer supporter, an association with funds to place. One line each.

Contribute

You do not have to be a writer.

Send us three paragraphs, a photo and a caption, or a phone call's worth of notes. We will do the writing and send it back for your approval before anything is published.

Nothing about a survivor goes in without their written consent, and nothing about a child goes in at all beyond what a camp has already cleared.
